The ‘Food packaging and waste in the UK - innovation, waste reduction and new initiatives’ is taking place on the 16th of July 2019, and we are looking forward to attend and to hearing all the up-to-date news. This seminar will discuss the next steps for food packaging and waste policy across the UK. It is exciting and educational for us to find out more information about all the initiatives and to see Ben Elliot again. He was appointed as government’s first Food Surplus and Waste Champion to help promote awareness of the issue of food waste.
We think it will be tough to clear the bar set by the South Korean government. Korea has seen rates of food recycling rocket from 2% in 1995 to 95 % in 2018. Yes! This is a world-leading good development on environmental issues, and we hope that Ben takes some of their good ideas – like banning food waste to landfill and initiating a pay as you throw system of buying food waste bags.
But every step forward helps and the food waste scheme within our project with Wilberforce Primary School is also world class working towards reducing food waste, and increasing the value that we do get from it, with ReFood.
We are hoping you will attend the seminar too - ways to book your place can be found here.
We are planning to write a report of the event by the end of July, so watch this space. Please email us at info@clearpublicspace.org if you are aware of any initiatives that are particularly effective for food waste reduction.
