One Bag Zero Waste designs shortlisted

A Future without Rubbish (AFWR) has revealed the shortlist of design entries to the One Bag Zero Waste design competition. 

Over 100 entries have been whittled down to a final eight – four from each school entered. 

Pupils from Queens Park Primary and Wilberforce Primary Schools submitted designs based on an environmental – circular - economy theme. A winner’s design from each school is to be printed onto the One Bag. 

The One Bag is made out of recycled plastic. It is reusable countless times and recyclable at end of its life, so it is a true circular economy item. 

Supporting A Future Without Rubbish’s latest environmental education campaign is our judging panel which has representatives from national and local government, and local business. They are helping us achieve our aims to teach young people the concept a circular economy and reducing plastic waste in their local communities. 

The judging panel includes Environment Minister Rebecca Pow MP, local architect Jonathan Tuckey, councillor Sara Mildmay-White and Gilly Fitzhugh from Queens Park Community Council. They had a difficult time choosing as the standard of entries were so creative. 

Gilly Fitzhugh from Queens Park Community Council said: “It’s been a really tough decision shortlisting the entries. The pupils at Queens Park and Wilberforce Primary Schools have shown real creativity as well as the beginning of an understanding of the circular economy: with reduce, reuse and recycling of plastic a key focus in many of the designs.”

Opening up the judging to everyone

Now that the judging panel have chosen their shortlist, we are moving online to open up the winning decisions to everyone. 

So, please take a moment out of your day to be a part of a new, unique pilot project that the Environment Minister said should be taken up by all authorities. Be a part of this pilot that will be everywhere, “in every school, in every country”.

How to cast your vote

From Friday the 27th to Monday 30th of March, you can have your say on which design from each school is printed onto the One Bag. 

Look out for the posts for each school. There will be 4 numbered pictures per school. All you have to do is cast your vote in the comments, by typing just the number of your favourite picture on one of the social media channels available:

Like and share the posts too, so we can get as many people involved as possible in picking two winners to get their designs printed onto the One Bag. 

Revealing the winners

The winning designs will be revealed when the bags are produced, and we are able to organise a school and community event, possibly next term. One winner from each school will be revealed as the bags are given out to families of the young people at the primary schools involved, to encourage “reduce, reuse and recycling” in their local communities. 

This is a living example of the circular economy in action. Become a part of this circle!
